    What triggers spam filters

Mailbox providers score every message before it reaches the inbox. Content is only part of that score, but it's the part you control instantly. This spam word checker audits the signals filters weigh most.

    Spam trigger words

We scan against ~120 known spam phrases grouped into money, free/discount, urgency, medical, scam/phishing, and overpromise. Each hit is weighted by category and counted in the subject and body, where subject-line hits cost more.

    Formatting signals

ALL-CAPS ratio, excessive exclamation marks, "$$$" and punctuation runs, and vague "click here" CTAs all read as shouting or low-effort spam to filters.

    Links & images

We measure link count, text-to-link ratio, image-to-text balance, and flag URL shorteners (bit.ly, tinyurl, t.co), which hide destinations and are heavily abused by spammers.

    CAN-SPAM basics

Commercial email must include a working unsubscribe mechanism and a valid physical mailing address. We check for both — missing either is a legal problem and a spam signal.

    CAN-SPAM in one minute

The U.S. CAN-SPAM Act applies to commercial email. The practical rules: don't use deceptive subject lines or "from" addresses, identify the message as an ad where relevant, include your valid physical postal address, give a clear opt-out, and honor unsubscribe requests promptly (within 10 business days). Penalties run into the tens of thousands of dollars per email, so the unsubscribe link and physical address aren't optional — and filters know to look for them.

How to improve your spam score

    • Write the subject like a human. No ALL-CAPS, no "!!!", no "$$$", and skip the stacked triggers ("FREE" + "ACT NOW" + "GUARANTEED").
    • Balance text and media. Keep real copy around your links and images; never send an image-only email.
    • Use branded links. Replace shorteners with your own domain so receivers can see where the link goes.
    • Include the legal footer. A visible unsubscribe link and physical address on every commercial send.
    • Back content with reputation. Clean content can't rescue a bad sending reputation — authenticate your domain and warm up your sending.
