Move from Campaigner
Export your Campaigner contacts, unsubscribes, bounces and suppression lists, bring your email HTML across, rebuild your workflows, and remove Campaigner's DNS records.
On this page›
This page takes you from Campaigner to a working IGSendMail account. Contacts, unsubscribes and bounces take about 20 minutes. Email designs and workflows take longer, depending on how many you have.

Do it in this order
Set up your sending domain first, because DNS changes can take a few hours. Keep Campaigner running until your first IGSendMail campaign has gone out, so there's never a gap.
What comes across, and what doesn't#
| From Campaigner | How it moves | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts, fields and list membership | Export a CSV, import it into a list | Minutes |
| Unsubscribed and hard-bounced contacts | Filter by status, export, import into your Blacklist | Minutes |
| Suppression lists | Export each list, import into your Blacklist | Minutes each |
| Drag & Drop emails | Export the HTML, paste into a new template | A few minutes each |
| Full Email Editor and HTML emails | Copy the code, paste into a new template | A few minutes each |
| Workflows | Can only be copied inside Campaigner; rebuild each one | 20 to 60 minutes each |
Step 1: Set up your sending domain#
Go to Sending domains, add the domain you send from, and publish the DNS records it shows you. Authenticate your domain walks through each record.
Once Campaigner has sent its last email, remove its records:
include:_spf.emailcampaigns.netfrom your SPF record. A domain may only have one SPF record, so add our include to the same record rather than creating a second.- The DKIM CNAME
em._domainkey, which points todkim.emailcampaigns.net. - If you had a dedicated IP or branded sending: the subdomain MX record pointing to
mail.emailcampaigns.net, and the A record used for link branding.
Keep your DMARC record.
Step 2: Export your contacts#
Show your subscribed contacts
In Campaigner, go to the Contacts tab and use the Show list (or the Status column filter) to show Subscribed contacts.
Export them
Select them and click Export. Keep all fields, and leave Include mailing list information ticked so each contact's lists come across.
Download the file
Campaigner puts the CSV in your Message Center rather than downloading it straight away. Download it from there.
Export the other statuses
Repeat with the filter set to Unsubscribed, then HardBounce. You'll use these files in step 4.
Step 3: Import your contacts#
Create the list and its fields
Go to Lists and create a list. Add a field under ListsFields for each field you exported, and a text field for list membership if you want to keep the difference between your Campaigner lists.
Import and map
Import the subscribed file and map each column to its field. Import contacts covers the mapping screen and the import summary.
Plan size
The Free plan holds 2,500 contacts. Every paid plan has unlimited contacts, so if your list is bigger than that, choose a paid plan before you import.
Step 4: Bring your unsubscribes, bounces and suppression lists across#
- Use the Unsubscribed and HardBounce files from step 2.
- If you kept suppression lists in Campaigner, go to Lists > Suppression Lists and export each one. These also arrive in the Message Center.
Go to Blacklist and import each file. The Blacklist import reads the email address from the first column, so move the email column to the front first if it isn't there already.
Don't skip this. Emailing someone who unsubscribed from you on Campaigner earns spam complaints and may break the law, and emailing addresses that bounced damages your sender reputation. Blacklisted addresses are never emailed, from any list. Blacklist and suppression explains how it works.
Step 5: Move your email designs#
- Drag & Drop emails: open the email, then choose Tools > Export HTML and copy the code.
- Full Email Editor and HTML emails: open the email's code and copy it.
In IGSendMail, create a new template, choose your own HTML, and paste it in. Images stay hosted by Campaigner until you close the account, so download the ones you use from Campaigner's Media Library (right-click a file, then Download) and re-upload them.
Then replace Campaigner's merge fields. [Contact.First Name] won't work here; insert tags with the editor's personalization control and set a fallback, as described in Personalization tags. Check the footer has your unsubscribe link and postal address.
Step 6: Rebuild your workflows#
Campaigner workflows can only be copied within your Campaigner account, so each one is rebuilt by hand. Before you start, open each workflow and write down (or screenshot) what starts it, each email and the wait before it, and any branches.
Then build it under Automations. Triggers and timing covers list, tag and date triggers, Build a workflow covers the editor, and Welcome series is a worked example.
Switch each automation on here only when you switch the Campaigner one off, so nobody gets the same email twice.
Step 7: Before your first send#
- Verify the list. Old lists always contain dead addresses. Run email verification before your first campaign.
- Start with your most engaged people. Your domain is new to our servers, so send to recent openers first and build up over a week or two. Warm up a new domain has a schedule.
- Replace your signup forms with an IGSendMail form, or new subscribers will keep landing in Campaigner.
